Om Sabona- in Norwegian

Ynghild Solholm reiste til Zimbabwe i 1999, på egenhånd uten tilknytning til noen organisasjon, med et ønske om å utføre hjelpearbeid. Hun startet sitt arbeide i en liten landsby, Dopota, hvor hun ble ønsket velkommen av lokalbefolkningen.
Ynghild begynte å undervise i engelsk og om Aidsproblemene, men så imidlertid fort at barna først og fremst trengte mat. Barna besvimte i skoletimene. Hun reiste hjem og organiserte en støttekonsert, og kom tilbake med nok penger til å starte opp en matstasjon på skolen hvor barna daglig fikk et varmt måltid.

Fra 1999 til 2006 bodde hun i landsbyen og fikk nær kjennskap til utfordringene på grasrota. I 2002 organiserte Solholm og venner i landsbyen er arbeidskommite som ble starten på en organisert virksomhet i Zimbabwe.
Arbeidet har over årene utviklet seg til å omfatte større prosjekter og dekke flere behov i landsbyen samt behov ved andre skoler og klinikker i området.

Ynghild Solholm drev et enmannsforetak fra Norge og arbeidet alene med støtte fra norske givere frem til det ble en stiftelse i november 2003. Hun hadde med tiden hatt flere støttekonserter, og venner, familie, bekjente og ukjente bidro med pengestøtte slik at landsbyen har kom seg igjennom den verste sultkatastrofen som har rammet det sørlige Afrika, uten dødsofre i 2002/2003.

I dag er Sabona en stiftelse som utfører prosjekter på grasrotnivå i Zimbabwe. Fokus på hjelp til selvhjelp, få mellomledd og direkte kanalisering av midler gjør prosjektene effektive og sterke. At lokalbefolkningen er med i hele prosessen, fra ide til utførelse og drift gir prosjektene verdighet og gjør dem bærekraftig. Lokalbefolkningen selv eier sine prosjekter.

Sabona er et resultat av møtet mellom to forskjellige kulturer, ydmykhet og respekt.

Born and raised on the volcanic island Dominica in the west indies, Original Chappa started singing in the church as many other great reggae singers.
In 2004 he moved to Europe and Gothenburg, Sweden, where he started working with the sound system and producer team Blenda Sound.
In 2005 he released a seven inch, Wuk A Gal (All Over Records) and in the 2006 he had three tracks on a Blenda Sound mixtape.

It seems none other than Beres Hammond is coming on Saturday October 17th!
No one seems to know the venue yet, but we sure hope that its going to be confirmed soon, and already on the 20th of October Sizzla is performing at Rockefeller!
Make sure to get in on theese two concerts. Beres cancelled the concert about 2 years ago and I think this would be his first show in Oslo ever?
Also look out for No 1 Station in october as always risings stars in the building!

Reggae, rocksteady, ska and soul provide a musical backdrop for the story
of Ivan Martin who travels from the country to Kingston to make it as a
singer. The road is more rocky than he anticipates, soon he is wanted by
music producers, fans and eventually the police. Ivan is determined to
overcome all obstacles at any cost, but his ambition leads him down a path
of self-destruction. The film rapidly became a much loved, cult classic
over the whole world. This theatre version revitalises and refreshes the
classic story.

The play runs until Saturday 3rd October all days except Monday 28th
September (no show) and Saturday 26th show is at 9pm

Just come home from Chiemsee reggae summer, a reggae festival in southern Germany, I must say it surpriced me to see this festival located in the alps and bringing over 25000 people togheter to be as chill and relaxing as it was!
No fuss, no fight just reggae music delight!
Definitly will be back for this one.
The list of artists were long, and well planned, 2 stages and no major crashes with artist performing, made it possible to catch artists like: Busy Signal, Junior Kelly, TOK, Max Romeo, Collie Buddz, Ray Darwin, Turbulence, Tiken Jah Fakoly, Konshens, Sojah and our two top rated concerts Macka B and Dennis Alcapone!

The London based label Necessary Mayhem has been lining up hit releases the last couple of years,I first heard of the label in 2007 when they reworked riddims like Agony, Koloko and Get flat and has since then had huge success with Police in helicopter and Joker smoker thats been topping (atleast) europes reggae selling charts.

Now the rumour says that next release will be a rework of Super Cats classic- Come Down!
Must say that im really looking forward to hearing this release, as always good riddim pick outta the 80s and 90s era.
Could imagine artist like YT or Tippa Irie will be released on it, have no idea really, but it will feature a combo with the two swedes Million Stylez and Joey Fever called Young Gunz. Big Tune it says.
Well just have to wait and see so in the meantime listen to the original Don Dada.

This is a tribute to the man behind dancehall classics like "Pirates`Anthems", "Dancehall good to we", "Telephone Love" and "Mr. Bodyguard". It contains big tunes from the late 80's until the early 90's. This includes the last unforgettable period for artists like Dennis Brown, Mighty Diamonds and Gregory Isaacs, as well as the bridge over to the US market for the biggest artist of the time, Shabba Ranks! Some of the best efforts in this mix come from Cocoa Tea and the man with the longest lasting career in the JA music business - the great Freddie McGregor.

It is also an era with many great female performers in reggae music, with successful tunes from J.C. Lodge, Deborahe Glasgow and the underrated Lady G.

The music that came out of Gussie's production house was sometimes close to over-produced, but it was music that was clearly meant to last, and to reach beyond the borders of Jamaica. And although the lyrical content was in the established tradition of the dancehall of the 80's, the music itself was like nothing ever heard before. That, and the fact that we are dealing with well-crafted songs from the best artists of the time, ensures that the tunes here will still mash up any dance.

Musically Mad started 2004, as a project dedicated to shine some light on the sound system culture. It has taken us four long years to complete it, working on evenings, weekends and spare time. We have brought our equipment to the UK several times and captured the people we met and the dances we attended.

Musically Mad takes you into the heads and hearts of the singers and the soundmen, the backbone of the UK roots reggae sound systems. With them they bring the deepest bass and highest chants, delivered by massive stacks of speakers and custom-built sound equipment.
For some, attending a sound system dance is a religious experience channelled through the music and the message. For others it´s the natural way to truly connect with the music they love.

From their humble beginnings in the backyards of Kingston, Jamaica, sound systems were brought along by Caribbean immigrants, and gradually gained a strong following in the UK. As David Katz´included extensive essay "Steel Horns And Bass Bins In Blighty" concludes, the dances were crucial in lifting the spirits of the Caribbean exiles, helping them to forget their hardships. Something that reggae and sound system culture now does worldwide, regardless of colour or nationality.

Musically Mad is the story of the people pushing roots reggae to the masses.
